The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
